Library Information and Archives Management

I. Discipline Overview
The first-level discipline of library intelligence and archives management belongs to the discipline of management, which studies the revelation, organization, discovery, preservation, widest dissemination and use of information; solves knowledge problems in real society through relevant theories, technologies and methods, and increases the capacity of social knowledge and people's knowledge capability through information literacy education. The discipline of library intelligence and archives management focuses extensively on the organization of information resources, data management, bibliometrics, scientific research evaluation, information literacy, information behavior, and information dissemination and utilization, and it is increasingly expanding into the fields of new media and network communication, public opinion analysis and monitoring, social network computing, digital humanities, media business management, think tank research, and digital publishing.
Based on the University's advantageous disciplines and fields such as chemical engineering, chemistry, materials and engineering, the discipline insists on the construction and cultivation characteristics of highlighting the service for regional economy, facing practical application and having theoretical innovation. The main research directions include the theory and method of information resource management, data science and intelligence analysis, and public security and intelligence application.
II. Cultivation Goals
Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the discipline comprehensively implements the CPC's education policy, takes establishing moral values and educating people as the fundamental, and the all-round moral, intellectual, physical and aesthetic development as the main line, and cultivates high-level talents with firm political stance, noble ideological character, rigorous academic attitude and innovative spirit.
Cultivate students to have a rigorous, realistic and scientific attitude and style, a spirit of innovation and truth-seeking, and good research ethics, as well as the ability to independently conduct scientific research in the discipline and professional ethics. Master the basic theories of major and related fields, and have the ability to independently analyze and solve theoretical and practical problems using graphical files and methods of related disciplines; be able to grasp main research results and the latest trends in the fields of this major, conduct innovative scientific research using advanced research methods and means, and have the ability of continuous learning. Be able to expertly use information technology represented by computers, be proficient in at least one foreign language, and have basic ability of academic communication.

IV. Study Period and Credits
The study period for academic master students is generally 3 years, with a maximum of 5 years.
The minimum total credit requirement for academic degree master students is 28 credits, with a total of no less than 24 credits of courses, 2 credits for attending academic lectures/reports and 2 credits for academic practice.
For master students enrolled at the university with equivalent education or from another discipline, they must take the main undergraduate courses of their current majors or the main courses (no less than two courses) of the graduate students in this discipline. The make-up courses will only be recorded with grades and no credits, but they should be included in the personal cultivation plan.

VI. Compulsory Links Management
1. Academic lectures/reports (2 credits)
Academic degree master students must attend at least fifteen academic seminars on and off campus during their study period, at least five of which are arranged by the Graduate School. Only those who have attended a total of at least fifteen seminars can receive 2 credits for lectures/ reports.
2. Academic practice (2 credits)
During the study period, academic degree master students must participate in one of the following academic practice activities: postgraduate science and technology forum, postgraduate summer school, postgraduate academic innovation forum, postgraduate research innovation practice competition, high-level international and domestic academic conferences or overseas exchange visits, and write an academic practice report to be reviewed and approved by the supervisor in order to obtain 2 credits for academic practice.
VII. Thesis
1. Basic requirements for thesis
The thesis is an important part of the cultivation of master students, which is comprehensive training for master students to conduct scientific research or undertake specialized technical work, and is an important step to cultivate the innovative ability of master students and their ability to discover, analyze and solve problems by comprehensively applying the knowledge they have learned.
After completing all the links specified in the cultivation plan and completing the required credits, master students may apply to start their thesis. The requirements for the thesis are detailed in the Regulations on the Topic Selection, Proposal and Writing of Thesis for Graduate Students of Nanjing Tech University and the Format for Writing Thesis for Doctoral and Master's Degrees of Nanjing Tech University.
2. Thesis proposal
Under the guidance of the supervisor, academic master students should determine the research direction, identify the research topic through literature review, data collection, investigation and research while studying courses, then write literature review for the topic selected, and write the proposal at the end of the third semester or the beginning of the fourth semester. The proposal should be at least 5,000 words long; more than 50 references should be read, among which at least 15 should be foreign papers.
Requirements on the topic selection and proposal of the thesis for master students are detailed in the Requirements for the Thesis Proposal of Graduate Students of Nanjing Tech University.
3. Thesis review and defense
The master's degree thesis will be subject to repetition check and blind review according to the progress and requirements arranged by the university in that year on the basis of passing the pre-defense. Academic master students can apply for defense after completing all the links and credits stipulated in the cultivation plan. For specific requirements on defense, please refer to the Detailed Rules for the Master's Thesis Defense and Review and Degree Application of Nanjing Tech University.
4. Academic achievement requirements
The academic achievements of academic degree master students are required to be implemented in accordance with the Measures for Assessment of Scientific Research Achievements of Master's Degree Applicants of Nanjing Tech University.

The criteria for graduation and degree awarding shall conform with the relevant regulations of the university.
