The labor union activity of the College of Overseas Education, combined with international culture, not only shows the Chinese culture and enriches the life of the teaching and administrative staff, but also promotes the collision and exchange of many countries’ cultures, and enriches students’ knowledge. The “One College, One Brand” Cultural Exhibition Activity for Teaching and Administrative Staff covers abundant contents, and shows distinctive characteristics.
The teachers dressed in traditional Han Chinese clothing or cheongsam exhibited Chinese traditional culture to international students through tea art, calligraphy and dance performances. The international students made green tea under the instruction of teachers, tasted the green tea and sang highly of it. The Han Chinese clothing performance of Chinese students was classical and elegant, and won bursts of applause. Teacher Jiang Liuzhao of the Office for the Retired Employees dressed in Han Chinese clothing, introduced the “the four precious articles of the writing table” to international students, and taught them how to hold brush pen and practice writing. Many international students came into contact with Chinese calligraphy for the first time. Under the careful instruction of teacher Jiang, they wrote down their own Chinese name and the Chinese character “福”. “I have never been in contact with calligraphy before I came to China. I feel that brush pen is very soft, and not easy to adapt to for a while, but I am very interested in Chinese culture.”Said Dahai, a student from The People's Republic of Bangladesh.
International students from 13 countries like Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Bangladesh, etc. set their own countries’ cultural booths, and the College of Overseas Education set the “One College, One Brand” Chinese cultural booth. In front of the booths, it was crowded and lively. Chinese and international teachers and students tasted special food made by international students, tried on national dress, and felt the cultural charm of each country in each exhibition area. The Cultural Festival was full of wonderful and colorful performances. The dance from Bangladesh was ebullient, the song from Kazakhstan had lingering charm; the exquisite costumes from Indonesia showed the exotic customs vividly and thoroughly … In addition, the dragon dance and lion dance, Tai Chi and Wushu performed by international students deliverd the charm of traditional Chinese Sports.
The International Cultural Festival and the “One College, One Brand” Cultural Exhibition Activity for Teaching and Administrative Staff is highly successful. It exhibits the charm of Chinese traditional culture, provides a stage for international students to publicize their own countries’ customs and culture, promotes the exchanges of Chinese and overseas cultures, and adds a bright color to the campus culture.
