College of Urban Construction was established in April 2015, on the basis of NTU School & Department System Reform and Adjustment. Originally, it integrated dominant disciplines of Heating and Ventilating Engineering in the College of Urban Construction and Safety Engineering and Municipal Engineering in College of Environment.
The college has 3 teaching units (i.e. Department of Heating and Ventilating Engineering, Department of Municipal Engineering and Experiment Teaching Center), 2 scientific research institutes (i.e. Heating and Ventilating Engineering Research Institute and Municipal Engineering Research Institute), 1 Dominant Discipline in Jiangsu Province Universities (i.e. Public Safety and Energy Saving), 2 majors with the Qualifications for Granting Doctoral Degree and Master’s Degree (i.e. Heating, Gas Supply, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Engineering and Municipal Engineering), 2 majors with the Qualification for Granting Master of Engineering (i.e. Heating and Ventilating Engineering and Municipal Engineering), and 2 undergraduate majors (i.e. Built Environment and Energy Application Engineering, listed in Brand Majors in Jiangsu Province, and Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering, listed in Characteristic Majors in Jiangsu Province). The two majors became National First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Sites in 2019 and 2020 respectively, and passed Engineering Education Professional Certification or the Evaluation by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development in 2007, 2012 and 2017.
Now the college has 56 faculty members, including 42 full-time teachers, 2 doctoral supervisors, 30 master supervisors, 12 professors and 22 associate professors. More than 80% of full-time teachers possess the background of overseas learning or cooperative research, and 100% of them hold the graduate degree or above.
The college has formed unique advantages in the research fields of Building Energy Saving and Green Building, Renewable Energy Utilization, Building Fire Technology and Water Resources Utilization Technology. It has numerous teaching, scientific research and talent training bases, like Jiangsu Province Green Building Engineering Technology Center, Jiangsu Province Urban Construction and Safety Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Nanjing Tech University College of Urban Construction Testing Center and Nanjing Tech University Experiment and Training Center. Teachers of the College of Urban Construction have undertaken a large number of national and provincial & ministerial key scientific research projects, including National Natural Science Foundation and the “12th Five-Year Plan” National Science and Technology Supporting Program.
The college attaches great importance to the cultivation of high-quality talents. Centering on the teaching work, it continues to improve the teaching management model, perfect hardware facilities, provide advanced teaching equipment and experimental equipment, and enhance the teaching quality of undergraduate and graduate students.
