防诈骗小课堂(十二)-Beware of ticket refund, change, and cancellation scams
阅读次数:     发布时间:2024-10-14

Fraudsters impersonate airline customer service, falsely claiming flight delays or cancellations to gain the trust of victims. They then induce victims to download video conferencing apps or designated software to obtain personal information and money.

The first step: impersonating an identity. Fraudsters who obtain passengers' booking information through illegal channels will impersonate airline customer service personnel by phone or text message, claiming that flights have been delayed, cancelled, or rescheduled. They can accurately provide the victim's name, passport number, flight information, etc. to increase trust.

The second step: compensatory inducement. Fraudsters usually take the initiative to offer compensation or indemnification to the victim, inducing them to move on to the next step.

The third step: inducing software downloads or screen sharing. Fraudsters will lure victims to download video conferencing apps or share screens under the pretext of verifying account information and ensuring smooth claims channels, in order to obtain information such as the victim's bank account, password, verification code, etc.

The fourth step: transfer verification. Fraudsters will demand victims to make transfer operations for various reasons. Such as verifying account security, unfreezing cards, brushing transaction records, etc., ultimately transferring the victim's funds.

The police remind that booking air and train tickets should be done through official channels to avoid personal information leakage. When receiving SMS calls containing information such as flight cancellations, flight changes, ticket refunds, etc., verification should be done through the airline's customer service hotline. Do not click on unfamiliar links at will, do not provide or enter important information related to property security such as bank card numbers, passwords, verification codes, etc., and do not transfer money casually.
